چکیده

Smohmmc B. E., KHOURY P. B. and SOULSRY E. J. L. 1977. Development of larvae of Ascuris suum from the third to the fourth stage in a chemically defined medium. International Journal for Purusikhgy 7: 149-151. Third stage larvae of Ascaris suum, recovered from the lungs of rabbits 7 days after oral infection with eggs, were cultured to the fourth larval stage in chemically defined, low molecular weight medium. The medium consisted of tissue culture medium 199, supplemented with glucose and glycyl-hystidyl-lysine and gassed with a mixture of N,-CO,-0, (90:5:5). Growth and development in this medium were similar to that in media supplemented with whole serum or with a serum dialysate. INDEX

Pyrophosphatase of the roundworm Ascaris suum plays an essential role in the worm's molting and development.

Previous studies indicated that inorganic pyrophosphatase of Ascaris suum (AsPPase) plays an important role in larval survival in the host. Here we describe a precise role for AsPPase in larval molting and development and also describe the potential role of recombinant AsPPase (rAsPPase) in protective immunity to A. suum infection. Using reverse transcriptase PCR analysis, we found that disrupt...

Identification and Characterization of a Differentially Expressed Gene (07E12) in the Infective Larvae of the Parasitic Nematode Ascaris suum

BACKGROUND Parasitic nematodes cause animal and human diseases of major socio-economic importance worldwide. The suppression of parasite development at particular developmental stages could provide an alternative approach for nematode control. In this study, Ascaris suum was used as a model system in the study of the differentially expressed genes in the infective L3 stage. METHODS The gene (...

Third-stage Larvae to Egg-laying Adults In Vitro

A 2-step roller culture system was designed that supported optimally the development of late-thirdstage larvae (L3) of Ascaris suum, obtained from rabbit lungs, to mature adults in vitro. The culture system consisted of 1) medium API-18 for 7 days, and 2) thereafter, medium API-1 supplemented with bovine hemin. Cultures were gassed with 85% nitrogen/5% oxygen/10% carbon dioxide and incubated at...

Immunopathology of Toxocara canis and Ascaris suum infections of the eye: the role of the eosinophil.

Intravitreal infection of guinea pigs with second-stage larvae of Toxocara canis and second- and fourth-stage larvae of Ascaris suum induced intraocular IgE antibodies and a dense eosinophil infiltration in the anterior chamber and throughout the uveal tract. The eosinophil infiltrate began within 1 day after infection and persisted for as long as 51 days. By day 12 after intravitreal infection...

Effect of Temperature on Embryonation of Ascaris suum Eggs in an Environmental Chamber

The influence of temperature on the development and embryonation of Ascaris suum eggs was studied using coarse sand medium in an environmental chamber with 50% humidity. The time required for development and embryonation of eggs was examined under 3 different temperature conditions, 5°C, 25°C, and 35°C. A. suum eggs did not develop over 1 month at the temperature of 5°C. However, other temperat...
